Sapwood and heartwood are distinguished.
When the tree is green the sapwood appears whitish but it changes colour when seasoned, becoming grey.
Instead, the heartwood has some characteristics similar to the walnut but with light different nuances, that change from brown-yellow to brown-olive, depending from the provenience.
It is a decorative wood thanks to the good effect produced by its dark streaks.
When seasoned it becomes steady, hard and heavy so it become easily workable.
The artificial drying must be processed very slowly and carefully to avoid splitting and warping.
This wood is used for the construction of furniture, furnishings, decorative veneers, luxury floors, cabinet making and objects in general.
