Tilia platyphilla

Botanic name Tilia PlatyPhylla – Scop. It belongs to the family of Tiliaceae. This tree grows spontaneously throughout central-southern and central-eastern Europe and is widespread as an ornamental plant in all countries with a temperate climate.

The specific weight Green è di 750 Kg/m³ – Dried 500 Kg/m³.

Sapwood and heartwood are not well distinguished.
The fresh wood is white and then tends to darken in contact with the open air, assuming a color that goes from yellow to brownish yellow.
Tiglio has a straight grain, a fine and uniform texture.
It resists only partially to the attacks of the xylophagous insects and is liable to fungi attacks.
It is recommended to treat the wood in order to preserve it from these attacks.

The artificial drying process is easy but it must be carried out with care because this wood has a slight tendency to blue stain.

This is a soft wood that can be easily worked with all normal tools.

It is suitable for all carving and inlay work and for fine carpentry work.

It is used for making furniture, window fixtures, clogs, toys, frames and musical instruments.
